Reduce Your Cost of Commuting
With rising gasoline prices, more commuters are looking for help forming a carpool, starting a vanpool, riding transit, bicycling to work, or teleworking.  With funding from the Florida Department of Transportation, Florida residents have access to many commuter assistance programs and transit agencies who are willing to provide free assistance in helping commuters find the best travel option to meet your needs.

Worried about being stranded if your carpool partner needs to leave work early unexpectedly? 

Most of the agencies have an Emergency Ride Home program that covers most of the cost of a taxi ride home (under certain conditions). Check with the commuter services program in your community.

Florida Commuter Choice Summit
The 2008 Florida Commuter Choice Summit, sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and co-hosted by the St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership and the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR), University of South Florida will be held on December 4 and 5 at the Hampton Inn & Suites in St. Petersburg, FL. The Summit is an annual event that includes presentations on Transportation Demand Management topics, the  announcement of the Florida Travel Choices Award winners and recognition of Florida's most recent Road Scholars (Florida Commuter Choice Certificate program graduates).  The 2008 Summit is open to Florida professionals only.

TDM Business Benefits Calculator
A user-friendly, online Business Benefits Calculator developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as part of the Best Workplaces for Commuters program helps employers estimate the financial, environmental, traffic, parking, and other benefits of implementing a joining the program. Best Workplaces for Commuters is now managed by the Center for Urban Transportation Research at the University of South Florida. To use the calculator, employers simply enter information describing the elements of their commuter assistance program and the calculator quickly estimates cost savings as well as reductions in traffic congestion, energy demand, and air pollution.
